1.Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship

This is a Japanese Government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology: MEXT) scholarship program provided to accept international students at Japanese universities and other institutions.

There are two application categories. The application period and selection procedures vary depending on the category.

Category 概要
Embassy Recommendation

Recruitment is conducted through Japanese overseas missions (Japanese embassies and consulates), where the first-stage selection is carried out locally through document screening, written examinations, and interviews.

Applicants who pass this selection are recommended to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Final decisions are made following a second-stage selection by MEXT and consultations with the prospective host universities.

University Recommendation

Japanese universities conduct the recruitment and carry out their own internal selection process, including document screening and interviews.

The universities then nominate selected candidates to the MEXT, and final decisions are made following MEXT’s review.

Each year, around December, MEXT issues a call for applications for admissions in the following academic year, and the application guidelines are subsequently published.
