ATTN: Students, faculty, and staff
Director, Crisis Management Office
As reported in the media, Japan is seeing a nationwide resurgence of COVID-19 cases. It has been pointed out that young people in their 20s and 30s account for many the new cases and that infections are spreading at restaurants and other dining/drinking establishments.
Given the circumstances, Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (OUAVM) urges its students, faculty, and staff to remain vigilant and to continue taking steps against the spread of the coronavirus during summer vacation by taking care of themselves and exercising precautions, such as wearing a mask, washing hands and avoiding “the three C’s” (closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings). Below are key points to remember during summer vacation.
To ensure the safe opening of the campus for the second semester, every member of the OUAVM community must take all necessary precautions to keep the campus safe from COVID-19. We ask for your cooperation in this regard.
1.Points to remember concerning hometown visits and other travel
- Pay attention to the infection status of your destination and refrain from moving to and from hot spots.
- In the event you become infected, take notes on who you met and where.
- Use the contact-tracing app COCOA.
- Take all necessary precautions to prevent infection on mass transit, such as wearing a mask.
- Follow the instructions given in our July 31 notice on domestic and international business and leisure trips.
2.Points to remember concerning hometown visits and other travel
(1) Dining out
- Select restaurants that comply with infection control guidelines, and take all necessary precautions, such as wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.
- Do not host or join non-essential and non-urgent dining/drinking parties and other gatherings.
- Refrain from speaking loudly while dining or drinking.
- Minimize conversations while eating/drinking and wear a mask before and after eating/drinking.
- Use the contact-tracing app COCOA.
- Follow the instructions given in our July 13 notice on the postponement/cancellation of non-essential and non-urgent gatherings where food and drinks are served.
(2) Other points to consider
- Avoid “the three C’s” (closed spaces, crowded places and close-contact settings).
- Avoid places and events where people talk loudly (e.g., restaurants, karaoke bars, sports, and other events).
- Wear a mask, wash your hands, sanitize surfaces, ventilate spaces and practice social distancing.
3.Arrival in Obihiro
- Students who travel to their hometowns or elsewhere are advised to arrive in Obihiro by September 16, two weeks before the start of the second semester (October 1). First-year undergraduates must arrive in Obihiro two weeks before the start of the Preliminary Agriculture and Animal Science Experimental Practice.
- After arrival in Obihiro, students are advised to avoid contact with other people as much as possible for two weeks and to look after their health.
- They are also advised to use a personal health record (PHR) app or another recording device to keep tabs on their health.
- Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms or signs of ill health should contact the OUAVM Health Care Administration Center (Email: hokekan@obihiro.ac.jp; tel.: 0155-49-5315).
