Promotion

The rule of OUAVM provides that a graduate school student will be promoted to be next grade at the beginning of next academic year if he/she passes the screening of progress with thesis research and the test for promotion (Article #14-2 of Graduate School Rule). Consequently, a graduate school student cannot be promoted without passing the screening of progress with thesis research and the test for promotion which are conducted at the end of each academic year.

Completion

Master’s Program

To complete a Master’s Program, it is required that the student has been registered in a Master’s Program for 2 years or more, has earned 30 credits or more and has passed an evaluation of the master’s thesis and final test. Detailed requirements and degrees to be conferred are as follows.

Doctoral Programs

To complete the Doctoral Program of Animal Science and Agriculture, it is required that the student has been registered in the Doctoral Program for 3 years or more, has earned 12 credits or more and has passed an evaluation of the doctoral dissertation and final test. Although, if the student intends to get the degree of ‘Doctor of Animal and Food Hygiene’, it is required for the student to earn 16 credits or more according to the requirements for ‘Doctoral Degree Program of Animal and Food Hygiene’.

To complete the Doctoral Program of Veterinary Science, it is required that the student has been registered in the Doctoral Program for 4 years or more, has earned 30 credits or more and has passed an evaluation of the doctoral dissertation and final test.

Detailed requirements and the degree to be conferred are as follows.

Thesis/Dissertation evaluation and the final test

If you will apply for master’s or doctoral degree, you must submit your thesis/dissertation and required documents with ‘Application for Thesis/Dissertation Evaluation’ by the deadline determined for the academic-year.

If you apply for master’s degree, you should be examined by ‘Degree Committee’ which is composed with one chief examiner and two or more other examiners at the open review. Then, the President of OUAVM decide whether to give you master’s degree according to the result of the examination.

If you apply for doctoral degree, ‘Degree Conferral Committee’ which is composed with all teachers who have the qualification for main advisor deliberate whether to give you doctoral degree, after your examination by ‘Degree Committee’ which is composed with one chief examiner and three or more other examiners at the open review. Then, the President of OUAVM decide whether to give you doctoral degree according to the decision of ‘Degree Conferral Committee’.
