I am Rintaro, from Osaka.I spent my days at agriculture high school tending to cattle, but my love for horse racing eventually led me to focus on equine research from university to the present day.

Introduction

Horses spend most of their day grazing on grass to maintain their majestic physique. Horses cannot digest the grass they consume, and so they rely on the microorganisms in their hindgut to breakdown feed. Therefore, it is extremely important for equine nutrition that the hindgut microbiome remains stable and functions favorably for the host. However, not all microorganisms are beneficial to horses and some are thought to cause fatal diseases such as colic and laminitis.
My research focus is on exploring the feed resources and environments that are preferred by beneficial microbes for equine health. Additionally, I investigate microbial by-products that impact the onset of disease.

Establishment of novel biomarkers for preventing colic.
Isolation and characterization of uncultured bacteria in equine hindgut.
Identification of bacteria and metabolites associated with postoperative diarrhea.
