Introduction
My research focuses on digitization in museums. Digitization includes creating digital images of the materials housed in a museum, corresponding metadata, and building a database within the museum. In the research, I am focusing on the case of the Republic of Lithuania.
The Republic of Lithuania locates in northern Europe. It is also known as the Baltic States, the countries that gained independence from the Soviet Union first. Since 2009, Lithuania has developed and introduced LIMIS (Lithuanian Museum Information Integration System), a standard system for museums to digitize their collection. As of 2023, almost all museums in the country are registered LIMIS.
In museum studies, studying digitization spread widely, like the case of LIMIS, which is widely used but does not involve gigantic star museums, has yet to dominate. In this study, I will investigate and analyze the process and impact of the diffusion of digitization through the Lithuanian example.
List of current research topics
- Acceptance Process by Professional Staff for Digitalization in Museums
- Changes in the use of social media due to long-term closure of museums
