研究交流目標

 日本側コーディネーターがセンター長を務める帯広畜産大学・原虫病研究センターは、これまでにセンター構成員共通の研究課題として、マダニ媒介性原虫であるバベシア、タイレリア及びマダニそのものに関する研究を設立当初より行ってきた。本センターにはこれら病原体に対する膨大な研究データ、実験技術及び知識が蓄積されており、アジアを代表する研究機関として近隣諸国をリードしている。また、アジア諸国等より受け入れた留学生達を中心にマダニ媒介性原虫病の専門家養成教育を長年施しており、実際に卒業生の多くは帰国後にそれぞれの国を代表する専門家・教育者として活躍している。そこで本事業では、これまでセンターが設立初期から形成して来たアジア諸国(ベトナム、タイ、フィリピン、スリランカ)の研究機関との交流ネットワークを活用し、新たにマダニ媒介原虫感染症の制圧に特化した国際共同研究拠点を構築することを目標とする。すなわち、ゲノム科学に立脚した、各流行地域に適したマダニとマダニ媒介原虫感染症に対する斬新な診断・治療・予防法の創出を通し、開発途上国における家畜生産性向上への貢献を目的とした国際ネットワークのプラットフォームを形成する。さらに、日本側及び相手国側の大学院生・若手研究者を積極的に本事業の中心で活躍させることにより、マダニ媒介原虫感染症の基礎・応用研究に精通したグローバルな若手研究者を育成する。

研究交流計画の概要

①共同研究

❶初年度は、マダニ媒介原虫感染症の流行地域として知られているベトナム中部フエ州、タイ北部チェンマイ州、フィリピン中部セブ島、スリランカ中部州をそれぞれフィールド調査地として選定し、広範囲の実地疫学調査を行う。各流行地域の主要流行原虫株と優占種マダニを特定する。

❷次年度は、上記の主要流行株と優占種マダニについて、次世代シーケンサーを用いた全ゲノム・全トランスクリプトーム解読を行い、独自のデータベースを構築する。これらのデータベースの解析により、各地域の主要流行原虫株を標的とした診断・治療・予防法を考案する。また、優占種マダニを標的としたマダニワクチンとマダニ伝播阻止ワクチンを考案する。

❸最終年度は、上記で考案した各地域に適した迅速簡易血清診断法(ICT法)と核酸診断法(LAMP法)を各海外拠点に導入し、広範囲で応用試験を実施する。また、各種原虫感染症に対する新規治療法とマダニ駆除法について、自然宿主を用いた実験感染系でその効果を検証する。さらに、各種マダニと各種原虫感染症に対する組換えワクチンについて、自然宿主を用いた実験感染系でその効果を検証する。

②セミナー

 初年度は日本(帯広)でキックオフセミナーを、次年度はベトナム(フエ)で進捗報告セミナーを、そして最終年度はタイ(バンコク)で事業総括セミナーをそれぞれ行う。これらのセミナーを通じて、拠点構成機関間の協力体制をさらに強化し、また、最新研究成果を次世代研究者へ伝授する。

③研究者交流

 文部科学省国費留学生制度、大学独自の奨学金制度、JICA研修員受け入れ制度などを利用して、海外の拠点構成機関から優先的に留学生を受け入れ、将来を見据えた次世代専門家育成を行う。また、日本の若手研究者も積極的に海外拠点構成機関に派遣し、実地疫学調査を体験させる。
