原虫病研究センター採用外国人研究員の印象記: Batdorj Davaasuren

お知らせ報告来日した研究員の声

Name: Batdorj Davaasuren
Affiliation: Research Unit for Advanced Preventive Medicine
Position: Foreign Visiting Researcher
Term: May to Nov. 2019
Host researcher: Assistant Professor Keisuke Suganuma (English /Japanese)

Circumstances of application:

  • I was former PhD student in NRCPD of Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine in between 2014-2018 and JICA participant of Advanced Research Course on International Animal Health which hosted in this research center in 2011-2012. Therefore, I have a long research history with the NRCPD. My supervisors and me had good progress in our whole genome research therefore we need to continue our further transcriptome analysis based on whole genome assembly of T.equiperdum IVM-t1 strain which is our previous study result.
  • Professors in NRCPD focused on development of new diagnostics, prevention, treatment and epidemiological studies. NRCPD professors are considered leading experts for protozoan research in japan. Cooperation and joint-research for these topics offered at NCRPD for foreign researchers.
  • NRCPD necessitate to educate and to develop researchers and students. Therefore, they become leading researcher in protozoan diseases research and later become connection between their institute and NRCPD. Contribution of NRCPD for animal protozoan diseases are incredible that based on high degree of knowledge and skills of professors and staffs.
  • NRCPD is well oriented for developing and introducing new technology of protozoan research. Members of NRCPD seeks international cooperation and international technology transferring for the purpose of counter measuring transboundary protozoan diseases.
  • NRCPD is managed effectively and creative for conducting scientific research with sufficient expenditure of academic and material resources.

Research activity in NRCPD:

My proposed objectives of the research were:

1) To develop full-genome and transcriptome database of T. equiperdum IVM-t1 strain.

2) To identify species-specific gene markers for species-identification among Trypanozoon trypanosomes by comparative genomics and transcriptome analyses.

As research summary, I have improved our gene prediction data and identified expression genes (mRNAs) in vitro culture by analyzing the raw RNA-sequencing data obtained from culture adapted T. equiperdum IVM-t1 strain. In addition, I have detected different expression level of genes in different culture condition. Moreover, I have identified some T. equiperdum specific genes by comparison of whole genome data among other Trypanozoon trypanosome species.

Future prospects:

  • In future, we are planning to directly collect equiperdum RNA from horse with dourine. It will allow us to compare their gene expression patterns between the in vivo and in vitro conditions.
  • We need to more deepening our research towards comparative genomics and transcriptomes that will give new insight of species classification and evolution among Trypanozoon.
  • We are going to assemble new draft genome from Trypanosoma evansi thorough three party’s collaboration which includes Japan, Mongolia and Thailand.

My point of view as a Mongolian researcher, we routinely face animal infectious such us dourine; therefore, we need effective diagnostic method and knowledge related for countermeasure against various infectious diseases. During this time being as foreign researcher, I gained a lot of new research idea and valuable experience. NRCPD and other branch of OUAVM often organized special lectures that covers interesting and important topics. These special lectures help me to obtain knowledge about modern day science and research progress all over the world.

My research would have not been completed without great help and support from my supervisor Asst. Prof. Keisuke Suganuma, and I wish to express my gratitude to him. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the professors of NRCPD for allowing me as foreign researcher at this center for the support of my research. My sincere thanks also goes to Assoc. Prof. Junya Yamagishi (Hokkaido Univ.), who provided me valuable advice for conducting transcriptome analysis and RNA sequence data.
