Name: Punsantsogvoo Myagmarsuren
Affiliation: Laboratory of Molecular Genetic’s, Intitute of Veterinary Medicine, Mongolia
Position: Head of laboratory, Researcher
Term: September 2024
Host researcher: Prof. Yoshifumi Nishikawa (English /Japanese)
Circumstances of application:
I was a former JICA participant of Advanced Research Course on Control of Zoonosis for Food Safety which hosted in this research center in 2009-2010. Also I was a research team member in SATREPS project titled “Epidemiological Studies on Animal Protozoan Diseases in Mongolia and Development of Effective Diagnostics Measures (2013-2018)” which is implemented in OUAVM and IVM. I was a worked for foreign visiting research position in May to August 2022 under the prof Yoshifumi Nishikawa at the NRCPD. In this time, I applied for the post of Foreign visiting researcher at NRCPD to conduct results of experiment for infection study and vaccine research for toxoplasmosis.
Research activity in NRCPD:
We have collaborated with joint research project named that “Development of vaccine against Toxoplasma gondii in small ruminants” with National research center for protozoan diseases (NRCPD) and Institute of veterinary medicine (IVM). The aim of the present study was to assess the experimental infection of Toxoplasma gondii in sheep in Mongolia.
In this study, we evaluated the antibody response to Toxoplasma gondii in an experimental infection model and a vaccination trial conducted on sheep. Following vaccination, a significant increase in antibody titers was observed in the vaccinated group when compared to the control group, indicating a successful immune response. Additionally, these samples were collected from some tissue samples for quantify specific DNA and confirmation of pathological study. The quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis was employed to detect the presence of Toxoplasma gondii DNA in tissue samples. Our results indicate the successful completion of both the experimental infection and vaccination of the sheep.
Future prospects:
I plan to leverage this experience to impart the knowledge I have gained to young researchers at my home institute, ensuring that the insights and skills acquired during my time at NRCPD are passed on to the next generation. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my supervisor, Prof. Yoshifumi Nishikawa and all the professors of NRCPD for allowing me as foreign researcher at this center for the support of my research.
