Collaborative research with researchers of the Department Animal Sciences in UW-Madison starts

From May 1st, 2017, Dr. Tatsuhiko Goto of Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (OUAVM) began a collaborative research project with researchers of the Animal Breeding and Genetics group in the Department of Animal Sciences in UW-Madison. This collaboration was initiated to strengthen the international joint research programs of OUAVM.

The Animal Breeding and Genetics group consists of many researchers (faculty, staff, and students) from all over the world. In order to enhance the communication among this diverse group of people there is a daily coffee time. Dr. Goto’s collaborators, Professors Hasan Khatib and Guilherme Rosa, were extremely supportive and helped him to quickly feel at home. From May, Dr. Goto began conducting genome analysis of reproductive traits in daily cattle using a “third generation”, next-generation sequencer (NGS) in the Khatib Lab.

Professor John Ferrick, the director of International Programs in UW-Madison, kindly helped him find housing and arrange daily necessities.
