自己紹介と学生へのメッセージ I joined the teaching staff at Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine on April 1, 2002. Before coming to Obihiro, I taught at Tokyo Metropolitan University of Health Sciences for six years while finishing my Doctor of Health Science Degree at The University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Medicine, Department of Health Policy and Planning. I also have a Master degree (M.B.A.) in international management and have taught in various countries throughout Asia including Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia.
Presently, I am teaching current English I and II, specialized English, a debate class for the global communications course, and graduate classes in western business management and food safety and policy. The current English classes are specifically designed for teaching English as a second language while teaching on current topics and issues relevant to each student’s respective field of study. All lectures are given in English and provide an excellent environment for listening to and speaking English while discussing a given subject. Following is a brief description of each course.
Current English I looks at up-to-date and practical topics related to human health and lifestyle. The “eight natural laws of health” which include good nutrition, plenty of exercise, water, sunlight, temperance, air, rest and trust are discussed in detail along with lifestyle diseases, weight control and other important topics that will help students not only become more conversant in English, but also be able to establish healthy living habits for the future.
Current English II looks at current issues related to animal and environmental sciences, as well as agriculture. Some of these issues include protection of endangered species, genetic engineering, water conservation problems and forest management.
Specialized English takes a religio-historical approach to looking at the development of early civilization and Western culture leading up to today’s social environment, as a means of better facilitating communication and understanding for students of English as a second language.
I am happy to explain further about the above classes to anyone who is interested. Please also feel free to contact me for advice on improving your English communication skills in general.
