Graduated at Department of Agriculture of Kagawa University in 1971. Resercher at Hokkaiedo National Agricultural Station in 1971 and at National Institute of Grassland Science in 1979. Awarded the degree of Ph.D. of Science in 1991 from Tohoku University. Associate Professor at Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine in 1991 and Professor in 2001. In the meanshile, Guest Professor at Basel University in 1998.
Cooperated with Prof. A. Wiemken, Basel University, in mechanism of synthesis of high molecular fructan in temperate grasses in 1998.
Major research interests are 1) carbohydrate metabolism of forage grasses in unfavorable environment, 2) mechanisms of participation of fructan in salt tolerance of temperate grasses, and 3) determination of effects of unknown substances on tolerances of plants using protoplasts.
